About

This blog represents one facet of Our Kam Family History. We are talking about original Kam Family headed by Kam Awana. He came from Guangdong China in  to settle in Wailuku, Maui. Of course, soon enough these involved other family surnames names. While we will eventually provide the rather large and sprawling family tree, our primary focus will be on Kam Awana and his immediate family. This includes his wife  , Kiu Kam, Moy Kam, Kwock On Kam, Wung Kam, Mook Yung Kam, and Fong Kam.

The blog serves as a medium by which we all can share various research and stories of our ancestry. I will first serve as the administrator and writer of posts to this blog. I may call upon my cousins and relatives and friends to contribute.

Reasons for starting this blog:
  • To share what we’ve learned through this journey of gathering stories, pictures, records, maps and historic documents with my family and extended families.
  • To pass on  to future generations some of the important aspects learned through the last decade.
  • To open new vistas on family research for the Kam family.
  • To pose the difficult and challenging questions we must ask.
  • To allow other family members to post their findings and resources

What this blog is not

As this blog will be on the internet, it may be visible to many unwanted visitors, even if we make it private through passwords and firewalls. Our family members who want additional information can ask us by calling or writing or emailing.

  • I will not go into minute detail of family history.
  • No personal information will be shared of those relatives still living (like birth/death dates and contact information)
  • I will not list many dates.
  • I will not list private or embarrassing tidbits.
  • Family Trees will not be posted in their entirety. That doesn’t mean I won’t write about our family trees, but the entire trees won’t be shown on the Blog—or be available for download on the Blog. I will communicate with relatives by mail or email or phone to share this type of information.
  • I will be extremely selective in posting documents, even if they are in the public domain (like US Census documents 1940 and prior).
